Acute bronchitis is characterized by a cough that releases sputum, fever, mucus-secreting structures growing larger, and back pain. Caused by the spread of viral infections to the bronchi, the swelling often occurs with childhood infections, such as measles, whooping cough, diphtheria, and typhoid fevers. Chronic bronchitis is characterized by an excess release of mucus in the bronchi with a cough that releases sputum for at least 3 months in at least 2 years. Additional symptoms are many lung infections, blue skin from lack of oxygen, less oxygen and more carbon dioxide in the blood, and a risk to develop a heart disease and breathing problems Factors that may cause chronic bronchitis include cigarette smoking, air pollution. Clinical features

The term “arthritis” means inflammation of a joint. There are many different types of arthritis. Some are due to infection and other are due to wear and tear; for many the cause sis obscure. The two most common forms of arthritis are rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Conventional treatment often reduces pain, but there is little improvement in the arthritic process itself.

Rheumatoid arthritis is often more severe and more generalized than osteoarthritis. It occurs more commonly in women but it is much more common younger people. It characteristically affects the hand an the large knuckle joints as well as the wrists, elbows, knees and feet. It affects the hip joints less often than does osteoarthritis. In severe cases, there is considerable destruction o f the joints, and other tissues including skin, lymph nodes, lungs, the heart, and event he liver and kidneys can be affected the rheumatoid process. The episodes may be started by breathing foreign substances (allergens) or pollutants, infection, vigorous exercise, or emotional stress. Treatment includes getting rid of the cause if possible. Sprays or wideners of the bronchi taken by mouth and steroid drugs are also used. Repeated attacks often results in shortness of breath (emphysema) and permanent obstructive lung disease.
